Note: If you, unlike Kent, feel that The Fob Bible is actually UNDERpriced, may I suggest the killer price of $56.81?

I completely agree, Wm. The collaborative nature of the book and the way it has been offered to the world are very interesting, especially in terms of how such a project might serve as a model for future Mormon letters endeavors. I may be mistaken (and someone correct if I'm wrong, because I likely am), but I'm not sure if anything similar has been undertaken in our community.

As others have already said, a most excellent review, Tyler.

It strikes me as significant that -- in relation to your comments on restorationism -- this is a collaborative project. And one that is ecumenically Mormon. If this was just one dude (or dudette) rewriting scripture, I don't think it would be quite so interesting.

It'll be a couple years before we take on another project (I naively thought I could get this done last summer), but the topic hasn't been chosen. I want to to A Fob Bestiary or A Fob Abecedarium, but others have suggested Greek myth. Time shall tell.

And you're right of course, about the cost. But PP's parent company wants you all to buy ereaders anyway. Expensive books, I assume, are all part of the greater plan.

I have to admit, this post includes the clearest explanation of what the Fob Bible is that I've read so far. To be honest, the whole idea hasn't been clear at all before now.

I am impressed now, I must admit. This is quite an audacious undertaking, and I agree with Laura, that I will now have to purchase a copy (even though you've clearly run into the POD/short run problem with doing hardcovers -- they end up rather expensive for their size and content).

So, does this mean that the New Testament is next? Will there be a Fob Book of Mormon?

The problem with me Laura is that I'm much too full of myself. Fob constantly has to tell me I'm really not that funny and to cut the crap already.

The other thing that put me off about this book was the inside joke (that I am not a part of!) feel to it. Every time I read an excerpt--even the title--it made me think I wasn't getting something. I read Theric's Thmusings and there's a lot of stuff there that feels like an inside joke, so it made me hesitant to read the book. The best thing your review did was clear that up for me.

Not that I've got anything contrary to say about the anthology, that is. Just that I'm long-winded and don't want to make you think too much before you read the book...
