I really appreciate this review and everyone’s interest in it. Dialogue does have a subscription wall behind which most of their recent content resides, but I’ve been able to access this article online, and I’m not a subscriber myself. The link’s been fickle, though, which is why I had to send Wm. a pdf. I’d like people to be able to read it, though, so try this link, and and if it doesn’t take you straight to the pdf then it should (I hope) take you to a page with the cover of the new issue and a search field; in the latter type “What Is Mormon Cinema” and it should take you to another page with a pdf or html option. Right. I subscribe to Irreantum and One Story and although I think official family policy is that I get to subscribe to three literary magazines, those two rather bust my budget.

There is the online access (which I also have on CD — the CD actually comes a bit closer to the present), but that doesn’t let me read this apparently awesome essay.

I don’t know if Cal subscribes. And I can’t just loiter on Cal campus all the time. I don’t think that would go over well with the family….

I, too, am too poor to subscribe to “Dialogue,” “Sunstone,” or “Irreantum,” though I’d like to subscribe to all three. But then, I’m also too poor to do pretty much anything, including buy groceries.

An electronic subscription is only $25 and provides access to previous issues.

What’s the electronic format? (You can already read everything that’s 5+ years old through the University of Utah’s CONTENTdm collection, but the format is not without its drawbacks.)

An electronic subscription is only $25 and provides access to previous issues. But yes, this is where a sophisticated content management system would be awesome. I’d definitely pay $15 a year for only access to poetry, short stories and the few pieces of literary criticism that Dialogue publishes.

That may lead to some subscribers downgrading their subscription, of course, but it might lead to new subscribers as well.

Although I don’t know what you have to complain about, Theric. Doesn’t Cal’s main library still subscribe?

Yes, though — yes this does sound familiar. It sounds like this is an analysis I would easy to amen.

And being within-and-astride is, in my opinion, one of our great strengths at an artistic community. It’s a great place to be.
